92 students to perform in BSU's Fall Festival choir concert

Bemidji State University presents its annual Fall Festival Choir Concert, showcasing five choral ensembles, at 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 26 in the Main Stage of the Bangsberg Fine Arts Complex.Admission is $10 for adults and $5 for senior citizens. BSU students are admitted free with a valid ID. Concert repertoire is varied from sacred music of the renaissance to contemporary selections and will feature the conduction of students and professors. Of the 92 students set to perform on Sunday, 55 of them of non-music majors. Varsity Singers The Varsity Singers under the direction of Steve Reznicek, adjunct instructor of music, will sing four compositions including "Joy In The Morning" by Natalie Sleeth and "The Irish Blessing" by Joyce Eilers Bacak. Women's chorus Conducted by Bob Boland, a BSU junior majoring in vocal music education, the Women's Chorus will perform two peices including "The Lamb" by Edwin Fissinger and "The Parting Glass" arranged by the Wailin' Jennys. Chamber Singers The Chamber Singers, who serve as the Royal Court for the annual Madrigal Dinners, will sing nine pieces ranging from 17th-20th century compositions. The Chamber Singers is an auditioned ensemble under the direction of Dr. P. Bradley Logan, professor of choral music. Bemidji Choir Under the direction of Logan, the Bemidji Choir will perform six pieces including “Amor De Me Alma" by Z. Randall Stroope and "Incline Your Ear and Come Unto Me" by Edwin Fissinger. The Bemidji Choir, founded in 1937 by Carl O. Thompson, has gained an international reputation for excellence. They have represented the United States five times at the international choral festival, The Europa Cantat: in France, Austria, Belgium, Switzerland, and Spain. They have appeared in the Israel Festival and at the Zimriya, World Festival of Choirs in Israel. They have also performed at national and regional conventions of the American Choral Directors Association and the Music Educators National Conference. Every three years The Bemidji Choir undertakes a foreign tour. In addition to concerts, tours, and recordings, for the past thirty-six years the choir has produced a series of Madrigal Dinners and Opera Nights in Bemidji and Minneapolis.
